Esta calle se concidera como la calle más moscovita. De donde vino esta tradición ahora solo podemos adivinar. Lo más probable que desde aquellos tiempos cuando en la calle paralela las autoridades de la ciudad destruían muchas mansiones antiguas para trazar la avenida Kalininskiy. El nuevo estilo parecía un poco al de Europa Occidental de aquellos tiempos pero contrastaba con los callejones todavía existentes.
La verdad es que los especialistas aseguran que Arbat nunca tenía el conjunto arquitetónico y funsional armonioso. En este territorio pequeño se mezclaron los estilos como imperio, modernista y art decor. Todos estos estilos arquitectónicos puede ver cada uno en el marco de nuestro tour peatonal de Moscu.
Su nombre la calle lo recibió por el nombre de esta región Orbat ( Arbat) que se situaba en la parte occidental de la ciudad. No existe una sola opinión en cuanto a la procedencia del nombre. La hipótesis más difundida es que el nombre proviene de la palabra árabe “arbad” que es el plural de la palabra “rabad” que significa la parte periférica de la ciudad y este nombre se conserva desde los tiempos cuando Moscú estaba dependiente de los kanes de la Orda de Oro. En los siglos XV-XVI el territorio que se situaba atrás de la plaza de las puertas de Arbat se llamaba el campo o sea era un territorio deshabitado que estaba pegado a la ciudad. Las puertas estaban protegidas por el foso que ya existía en la segunda mitad del siglo XIV. Desde aquí comenzaba el camino antiguo a la ciudad de Mozhaisk que unía Moscú con Mozhaisk y con Smolensk.
La primera mención de la calle se encuentra en los crónicos del siglo XVI cuando Iván el Terrible en 1565 destinó esta tierra para su regimiento llamado ” oprichnina”.
En la calle Arbat durante La visita peatonal de Moscu Ud verá muchos edificios con una historia interesante y verdadera.
En uno de los edificios de la calle Arbat que fue destruido en la Segunda Guerra Mundial y después reconstruido se encuentra el teatro Académico Estatal de Eugenio Vajtángov. El equipo de los actores de este teatro son graduados de la Academia teatral de Schúkin que pertenece al teatro de Vajtángov.
En el edificio № 43 nació y creció el cantaautor ruso famoso Bulat Okudzhava al que concideran con derecho como el cantante principal de Arbat. Al lado de la casa se encuentra un complejo conmemorativo donde se reunen los amantes del talento del cantante.
La casa № 53 fue construida a mediados del siglo XVIII. En el segundo piso de esta casa en 1831 alquiló un apartamento el poeta ruso Alejandro Pushkin quien vivió aquí con su mujer joven Natalia Goncharova. Es el primero y el único apartamento conservado del poeta. Luego la casa pasaba de unos dueños para otros. En 1884-1885 aquí vivió А.Chaikovskiy, hermano del compositor y Piotr Chaikovskiy celebró con él la fiesta de Año Nuevo en 1885.
Se puede contar muchas historias interesantes de otros edificios de la calle situados por ambos lados de esta calle espectacular porque aquí nació el mariscal Suvórov, vivió la Luna de Miel Pushkin, componían sus obras musicales los compositores como Skriabin y Taneev, nació y creció el cantaautor Okudzhava.
