Os embaixadores extrangeiros traziam ricas donações aos czares russos: os copos de prata, as telas preciosas, a armadura dos guerreiros, as coisas ricamente decorados para os cavalos.Assim na Armaria que é uma das ATRAÇÕES DE MOSCOU se concentraram poco a poco a produção, a compra e a conservação das armas, joias e coisas que pertenciam aos czares. O Grão Príncipe de Moscou, Ivão o Terceiro mandou construir entre a catedral de São Miguel Arcanjo e a catedral da Anunciação um predio de dois andares que recebeu o nome do patio do tesouro onde guardavam as coisas e produziam ao mesmo tempo.
O patio de tesouro sofreu muito durante o reinado de Demétrio Falso (1605-1606) assim como durante a invasão de Moscou pelos polacos (1610-1612). Os tesouros do Kremlin quase todos foram robados. Depois da liberação de Moscou renasce a atividade das oficinas do Kremlin. Na segunda mitade do século XVII era como o renascimento das oficinas do Kremlin. Em 1640 foi aberta a oficina de ícones como parte da Armaria, no ano de 1683 a oficina da pintura; no ano de 1700 foram abertas as oficinas de Ouro e de Prata. Nestas oficinas se estudava a arte pictórica e de artesanato. Aquí trabalhavam os mestres russos – joalheiros e armeiros. Quando Pedro I trasladou a capital a São-Petersburgo a importancia da Armaria disminuiu. Porem a tesouraria se completava tambêm. No Dezembro de 1709 depois da vitória perto de Poltava, pela ordem do czar todos os trofeus e os estandartes foram entregados à Armaria. No ano de 1711 a maioria dos mestres foram trasladados a São-Petersburgo e no ano de 1726 a Armaria foi unida com o patio de tesouro, a tesouraria das cavalariças e as oficinas de produção e começou a chamar ” a Armaria e as oficinas de produção”.
Antes da batalha de Borodino de ano 1812 contra Napoleão todas as joias da Armaria foram escondidas na cidade Nóvgorod o Baixo. Durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial em 1941 a coleção foi escondida nos montes dos Urais onde se guardava atê Fevreiro de 1945.
A coleção do museu da Armaria conta com umas 4 mil exemplares da arte aplicada da Russia, paises de Europa y Asia Central do século IV-o inicio do século XX.
