Esta rua é conciderada como a rua mais moscovita. De onde veio esta tradição agora so podemos adivinhar. É provável que daqueles tempos quando na rua paralela a administação da cidade destruiam muitas casas antigas para traçar a avenida Kalininskiy. O estilo novo lembrava um pouco o estilo de Europa Occidental daqueles tempos mais contrastava com as ruas que existiam la perto.Os especialistas aseguram que Arbat nunca tinha nenhum conjunto arquitetónico e funsional armonioso. Seu nome a rua recebeu pelo nome desta região Orbat ( Arbat) situada na parte occidental da cidade. Existem muitas opiniões sobre a procedência do nome. A hipótesis mais difundida é que o nome provem da palavra árabe “arbad” que é plural da palavra “rabad” que significa a parte periférica da cidade e este nome preserva desde os tempos quando Moscou estava dependente dos khanes da Horda de Ouro. Nos séculos XV-XVI o território que situava atrás da praça das portas de Arbat se chamava o campo o seja era um território deshabitado que estava ao lado da cidade. As portas estavam protegidas pelo foso que ja existia na segunda mitade do século XIV. Desde la começava o caminho antigo para a cidade de Mozhaisk que unia Moscou con Mozhaisk e com Smolensk.
A primeira menção da rua se encontra nos crónicos do século XVI quando Ivão o Terrivel no ano de 1565 destinou esta terra para seu regimento chamado ” opríchnina”.
Na rua Arbat durante a tour a pedonal de Moscou a gente verá muitos predios com uma história interessante e verdadeira.
Num destos predios da rua Arbat que foi destruido na Segunda Guerra Mundial e depois reconstruido se encontra o teatro Académico Estatal de Eugenio Vajtángov. O equipo dos atores deste teatro são graduados da Académia teatral de Schúkin que pertence ao teatro de Vajtángov.
No predio № 43 nasceu e cresceu o cantador russo famoso Bulat Okudzhava conciderado com razão como o cantante principal de Arbat. Ao lado da casa se situa um complexo commemorativo onde juntam-se os amantes do talento do cantante.
A casa № 53 foi construida nos meiados do século XVIII. No segundo piso desta casa no ano de 1831 alugou um apartamento o poeta russo Alexandr Pushkin. Ele morou aquí com sua mulher jovem Natalia Goncharova. É o primeiro e o único apartamento conservado do poeta. Depois a casa passava pra outros donos. Nos anos 1884-1885 aquí viveu А.Chaikovskiy, irmão do compositor e Piotr Chaikovskiy celebrou com ele a festa de Ano Novo em 1885.
Podemos contar muitas histórias interessantes de outros edificios da rua porque aquí nasceu o marechal Suvórov, viveu a Lua de Mele Pushkin, componiam suas obras musicais os compositores como Skriabin y Taneev, nasceu e cresceu o cantador Okudzhava.
